Most important of all Christian Science teaching is the understanding of God; for proportionately to this understanding is he realization that divine Love is the only presence and power; through this understanding we gain better health, more patience, increased capacity for enjoyment, purer thoughts, and that love for our neighbor which establishes the brotherhood of man.
Until about two years ago, when this truth was presented to me through "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," I had groped in darkness searching for Truth. I read everything I could procure on the subject in which I was so much interested, hoping to find peace, something that was satisfying. I almost stopped reading the Bible, especially the Old Testament, for I could not understand it. However, the sayings of Jesus were always sweet, but I did not know how to make them my own, how to bring them into my life. I seldom prayed, for it seemed that my prayers were never answered. I belonged to an orthodox church, but my longing was not realized, somehow there was much lacking, I could not tell what.
Finally, after weary years of suffering, both mental and physical, I have found through Christian Science, a practical, demonstrable Christianity, which brings the peace that passeth all understanding. The Scriptures are now illumined. When walking in darkness I believed believed in the reality of sin, sickness, and death; that evil had equal power with good, or even greater. Now, I find that these conditions are real only to our false human sense, and do not belong to the facts of being. Divine Mind subdues all these beliefs, hence health and harmony are realized.
