Mr. Allison of Iowa offered a resolution last week authorizing the Committee on Rules to re-examine the rules of the Senate with the view of ascertaining what change if any, are necessary, and especially to make inquiry whether it is expedient in any way to limit debate in the Senate, and if so to what extent. The rules at present allow unlimited debate, and advantage is taken of this to obstruct and delay legislation.
It is reported on what is considered good authority that two professors in the Harvard Law School will be appointed to important positions in the court of Siam, One of these positions will be that of legal adviser to the King. This, owing to Siam's relation to international questions in the East, will be a position of importance and responsibility.
The Panama Canal Treaty with Colombia has been favorably reported without amendment to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. A vote on the measure was to be taken Tuesday.
