With a grateful heart I write of the following experiences which have come to me through Christian Science, hoping that this may cast a ray of light into some poor hopeless heart.
From childhood I had been rather frail, and was accustomed to be very careful in regard to my health. In my twentieth year irregularities of digestion appeared which resulted in serious stomach and bowel complaint, Several specialists were called; several times I went to a clinic which was supervised by a noted authority, remaining there for months at a time. I was only partially relieved of my suffering, and I seemed to be merely vegetating. The physicians agreed that I could never expect to be entirely healed, for the disease had assumed such control that it had become chronic. The pain was unbearable, the cramps in my stomach and bowels manifested themselves more and more, and several times I lost consciousness. This condition lasted for seven years. I tried all that medical aid could afford us, but in vain. My fear of increasing pain and trouble pursued me day and night.
At length I went to Switzerland for my health, and there I heard of the blessings which Christian Science brings, yet I had very little confidence, and with a degree of suspicion I listened to the Scientists' explanations. They gave me their literature to read and I soon saw that many sufferers had been blessed with healing. I approached the subject with less prejudice. I tested it, considered, studied, hoped, believe, until, after a few weeks, knowledge of Truth began to destroy the entangled roots of error. Hope began to dawn, different and even joyful thoughts came to my consciousness and revived me, and after three months' treatment and study, I was free from all my ills,—not a single trouble clouded my life.
