Thanksgiving Day in the Mother Church
The singing of the first hymn was followed by the reading of the Governor's Thanksgiving proclamation, that of the President having been read the Sunday previous. The reading of the one hundredth Psalm was followed by silent prayer and the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation, as given in our text-book, after which the congregation joined in singing the Communion hymn written by Mrs. Eddy. The Thanksgiving Lesson-Sermon was next read, and was followed by a solo.
Professor Hering, the First Reader, then said,—
It is especially fitting that our Thanksgiving Service should include the opportunity of giving verbal expression of our gratitude for the many blessing that have come to us through Christian Science.
