Transformation through Mind

De Funiak Springs (Fla.) Breeze

If Christian Science were what many think it is,—a form of hypnotism clad in religious phraseology,—it ought to be condemned by all right thinking people. If, on the other hand, it is what its followers claim it to be,—beneficial morally, physically, and socially,—the public ought to know it, lest they be found "fighting against God" in defaming and ridiculing such a factor for the uplifting of mankind.

St. Paul was stating a metaphysical and healing thought when telling the Romans to be renewed or transformed by the renewing of the mind. His words to the Phillippians, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus," is intended for all professed followers of Christ. This cleansing power of God's word has never been abrogated. That is the only metaphysical side there is in Christian Science practice and living.

The transforming, regenerative power of spiritual thought (or silent prayer) wielded by the true Christian Scientist is not a metaphysical formula, incantation, nor any laying on of hands. Neither does the mere abstinence from drugs constitute Christian Science practice. The study of Science and Health, the text-book of the denomination, does not heal the diseased body while permitting the possessor of that body to retain his corrupt thoughts, and indulge his sinful inclinations.
