I have made several attempts to give to the Sentinel a statement of the benefits I have received through Christian Science, but did not feel satisfied with what I wrote. It seemed so small compared to what had been done for me, but I feel I must send my testimony to show my gratitude, and with the hope that some dear one hesitating to take his stand may be benefited by my experience.
I had suffered for about nine years with what the doctor called lumbago; many tried to help me, but I grew no better. Then I became interested in Christian Science through the wonderful healing of my sister in this way after one week's treatment. She had received medical treatment for two years before coming to Christian Science. I was a little doubtful about my sister's healing being permanent, but I decided to try it for one week.
I was helped at the first treatment but not cured when the end of the week came. I then decided to give it all up, but the practitioner advised me to persevere a little longer. Through his kind instructions and my reading, I was gaining each day more strength than I ever would have gained had I been healed in my own set time. I realized that I had found the truth, and I could no longer assent to the beliefs of my old church, yet I was in no hurry to join the Christian Science Church, thinking some future day would do just as well, but here was my mistake. It was made clear to me in reading Exodus that I must stand on the side of this truth which had healed me, if I expected to receive all its benefits, just as the children of Israel were blessed by going on as one with Moses.
