From the Old to the New

'ABOUT a year and a half ago some one lent me the textbook of a new system of short-hand. I examined it and was so impressed with its advance upon the old systems, that I determined to master it. I had always heard that the greatest difficulty in learning a new system, was in forgetting the old characters which the hand had become accustomed to form. This thought I met Scientifically, by absolutely turning my back, as it were, on the old, and never for one instant allowing any images of its characters to dwell in thought. Doing this constantly and persistently, I experienced none of the difficulty that mortal thought anticipated.

It did not occur to me at the time, but since. I have realized that the course I pursued in regard to the shorthand, is the Scientific and only method of destroying old images of thought, to which we were accustomed prior to our acceptance of the new Scientific thought of Truth Every conception, every expression that savors of our former condition, when we dwelt entirely in mortal beliefs, must be absolutely denied, turned out of consciousness without delay or argument, and there must be no comparison of the old and the new, to see wherein their difference lies, or to see how much the new exceeds the old in good.

The better way is to cast out the old, and thus make room for the new, so that there be no clashing of beliefs. Doubt of Truth, and fear that we cannot accomplish a desired end, are not expressions of Intelligence, and therefore cannot be entertained by one who is striving to learn the "new way," "forgetting those things which are behind."
