By reading the testimonies of healing in our periodicals, I am convinced it is my duty to add mine to the many. I did not come to Christian Science for physical healing, but for spiritual help. I had a chance, however, to test the healing power of Christian Science as well. Between the ages of seven and eighteen, I was held in bondage by rheumatic fever and heart trouble which used to last all winter. The physician said I would finally outgrow it, which I did to some extent. The word rheumatism would strike terror to me. I used to have rheumatic pains throughout my entire body, one steady ache. The old trouble appeared after coming to Christian Science. It seemed as if determined to prove fatal. The intense suffering lasted about three weeks, passing from one part of the body to another, until at last it seemed to have become quite unendurable.
I am now thankful for the trial I passed through, which proved the power of God who never sent pain and suffering to His children. I am grateful to those dear ones who were instrumental in relieving me of this demon of disease. They said I inherited it from my grandmother. It is stated in Science and Health, p. 63. "Man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry."
One who helped me through this trial, was my little girl, six years old. She spent most of her time reading the Bible and Science and Health to me. She believed every word was healing me. Through her demonstration the swelling disappeared from my feet. The first Sunday I attended church, it seemed impossible to wear my shoes. I was putting on my slippers when my little girl, who seemed quite indignant, said, "Why, mamma, you can wear your shoes;" she was so positive that I tried again and wore them all day without any discomfort. I am thankful to God for the holy privilege of reading the Bible and Science and Health with even a grain of understanding.
