Among the Churches
It may be of interest to the Field to know that the subject of Christian Science was brought before the great Australian Anglican Congress held in Adelaide, state of South Australia, last month, by the Bishop of Christchurch, N. Z. It is rather remarkable that the congress should have devoted even so much time as it did to the subject, in view of the fact that Christian Science is only just beginning to obtain a foothold in 'Australia; but it is evident that the rapid growth of Science in America and Europe is being very keenly watched here.
Both the Adelaide daily papers have published a letter bearing on Christian Science. This is especially gratifying from the fact that so far as I know this is the first time any of the great Australian dailies have published anything in favor of our Cause. Several of the religious papers have from time to time during the last five years alluded to Christian Science, but only in such a way as to clearly show that the writers had scarcely a glimmer of what it is; hence they fell into the customary errors arising from ignorance, and so far they have not accepted letters in reply to these misstatements. But we wait patiently for that demonstration, and it will be made in good time. It is the day of small things for Christian Science in Australia, but there is steady and gratifying progress. Many demonstrations have been and are being made; and the sale of literature, and the increased enquiry for it, give the confident assurance that a mighty work is about to be done here. No one can be more grateful than the writer for the revelation of Truth that has come through our Leader, and this feeling of gratitude is one of the most pronounced features of Christian Science in this new land.
But I do not intend this to be a personal testimony. I only desire that you who are helping us so much should know that the first movements of a great upheaval of religious thought are visible in Australia, where, I am convinced, Christian Science will find a most fruitful soil.
