Mortal mind had pronounced the following sentence...
Mortal mind had pronounced the following sentence upon me: Weak constitution, low vitality, defective nutrition, poor circulation, etc. I was always very ambitious and always breaking down. I tried in succession doctors and medicine, change of climate and altitude, osteopathy, hydropathy, electricity, physical culture, diet, fresh air, exercise, sunbaths, etc. I was becoming the worst kind of a health crank.
One day, lying on the sofa taking my "hour's rest before meals," I felt very nervous and irritable. My mother read some articles in a Christian Science Sentinel. I remember I complained that they did not explain what Christian Science was or how it healed, and then I thought if only a Christian Scientist might treat me a few minutes it would save all this valuable time I had to waste every day trying to "calm my nerves." I had a strange craving to go to a Christian Science service, but I said, "Christian Scientists are lazy, 'Eternal vigilance is the price of health, I must obey the laws of health." But the more attention I paid to health regimen the worse I became. I was at the end of my tether and discouraged. Finally I went to the Christian Science reading room and could hardly wait to find a practitioner, I was so impatient and anxious, and so craved health and strength. When at last I found one and tried to talk to her I could only cry, I was so despondent. She treated me and gave me "Miscellaneous Writings" and later Science and Health to read. Before I left her that day, my whole horizon had changed. Where before had been heavy clouds, now all was rosy. After two weeks of treatment and reading, I was wonderfully improved and have slowly but steadily progressed ever since. I have been through a class and my mother has come into Science with me. Through demonstration I have secured a position and believe I have found my niche in life, for all of which I am very grateful to dear Mrs. Eddy and of course to God above all.
