Conquest of Self

THE first few weeks after I became interested in Christian Science were so happy and full of joy that it seemed to me I should always feel thus. There was such a sense of ever-present Love with me that I did not worry over any trial that arose in my daily work, and I expected this happy state to continue.

But soon I found the struggle of conquering self must begin. Impatience, pride, anger, and selfishness would come to my consciousness, and it would not do merely to say there was no reality in these things, for that meant over-looking and not overcoming error.

This lesson of conquering self every Scientist has to learn, and it is not an easy one by any means. It is one that requires great watchfulness and prayer.
