For some time I have been seeking the way honestly to express gratitude for my healing in Christian Science. I asked, What is gratitude? and the answer came: To live, to love, to walk in obedience to Principle.

It is little more than two years since I learned of Christian Science and claimed the privilege of calling a copy of Science and Health my own. At that time I had for eight years been wearing glasses which an oculist shortly before had said I should always be obliged to wear. I have not worn them since the book became my possession.

Thinking about the book one day, I awakened with a start. What a wonderful thought this is, and how different from other theories I have read, mentally antagonized, and quarreled with, because I could find nothing satisfying. To be sure I understood very little, in fact remarkably little, of what I was reading, yet the words sounded so very reasonable. Then, too, where had the old, unending sense of weariness, the heart trouble,—a disease of five years' standing,—and many other bodily ills gone? Why, gone with the awakening, proving that they were only a dream.
