Some Explanations

As Christian Scientists we contend that there is but one First Cause, and that is God. This primal, creative, governing Cause, God, is Spirit, and all effects therefrom are, and must in the nature of things be, spiritual. Man, the image and likeness of such a God, is not material, but is spiritual. All so-called "force" is really divine energy manifested, reflected, in the good and only the good, the spiritual and only the spiritual. There being no matter, even from the standpoint of the natural sciences, all is spiritual, and dates back to God, the great First Cause.

We do most heartily agree with the affirmation that the declaration of the unreality of matter is a very old doctrine. It is as old as God Himself. How could it be otherwise when God is, was, and ever will be Spirit, and could not create matter. In our text-book, Science and Health (page 335), we read: "Spirit, God, has created all, in and of Himself, Spirit. God never created matter, for there is nothing in Spirit out of which matter could be made; for as the Bible declares, without the Logos, the

Wisdom or Word of God, 'was not anything made that was made.' "
