A DEEP IMPRESSION

I wish to express my deepest gratitude for Jeffrey Hildner’s article, “Free the angel,” in the December 5 issue of the Sentinel [“Art & Soul”]. It made a deep impression on me, so much so that I now find myself viewing everything I do with a more spiritualized outlook. A warm thank you to Mr. Hildner for expressing this truth about our God-given gifts of creativity in such a fresh, new way.

LAUGH-OUT-LOUD FUNNY

The cartoon of Adam and Eve’s expulsion from the garden of Eden was laugh-out-loud funny (November 21 Sentinel [“The Bible—dive in!]). It places this ancient story in a most contemporary setting. I’ve enjoyed viewing it several times and sharing it with others, who immediately caught the point and joined me in a hearty laugh. As a Sunday School teacher of middle-school students, I often refer to the lessons to be learned from the Adam and Eve story. This cartoon goes into my folder of talking points.

BOLD ARTICLE

Thanks to Nate Talbot for his thought-provoking article, “Christian Science: salvation or healing?” in the November 7 Sentinel [“Christian Science healing: transforming lives”].

I can’t stop thinking about his comparison of a medical doctor’s advice to a patient he’s helping to walk again, “Go and exercise those legs regularly,” to “Christian Science points out that what Christ Jesus said to such a man was truly scientific, Go and ‘sin no more’ (John 5:14).”

The purification and transformation of thought from a material basis to a spiritual basis are requisites in spiritual healing, and as a result, we can surely expect to see ourselves as absolutely sinless, never having departed from holiness (see Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 475).

Thanks for such a bold article!

OUT OF THE BOX

The Sentinel of October 31 [“Government: Stay on Love’s side”] is one that is out of the box. Every page of print and every illustration hits its mark with me, thank you.

Andrew Wilson’s article, “ ‘I will make you fruitful,’ ” is a delight, as is his joy at living consciously in the “fruit-stage.”

I am reminded of a report of an early Christian Science lecture in Melbourne, Australia, when the introducer, not a Christian Scientist, mentioned that “Christian Science has been fructifying in Melbourne” for several years. The year was 1911, and the lecturer was William D. McCracken of New York.
