YOUR LETTERS

"Then I remembered the 'Ethics' article, and thought, 'OK, here is a good way to put what you believe into practice.' "

Thank you for the timely message found in Judith Cole's Workplace article entitled, "Business + Ethics = Success." I enjoyed reading it when my issue first arrived, but it wasn't until a few days later that I felt the healing impact of its message.

I had just finished calculating grades for my college-level mathematics class, and the final examination grades had come out quite low. Because I am only a teaching assistant, not a professor, my grades are inspected by my supervisor. I was really scared to show them to him. For the first time in a long time, I was tempted to lie. I even envisioned ways I could fabricate a fake grade sheet, so my supervisor wouldn't think I'd made the course too hard. Then I remembered the "Ethics" article, and thought, "OK, here is a good way to put what you believe into practice. Besides, relying on divine Principle worked beautifully for this author; it can for you, too!"

After an evening of prayer, I went to school the next day to show my supervisor my grades. He commended my willingness to write such a challenging final examination, and helped me find a way to assign fair grades to my students. He then wrote me a stellar letter of recommendation to my department chair. I was thrilled, and thanked God the whole way home. I could not have planned a better outcome. The truths in Cole's article gave me the moral courage to stand for what is right.
