When I lost my husband, it seemed to me that the world would fall in upon me. Not only was my dear husband gone but I lost everything in a business that we had built up; an employee had robbed me, leaving me in a sea of troubles and with unpaid taxes. I felt very much alone and confused, and my state of despair included loss of health, sleep, and the will to live.
It was at that time that a close friend who was aware of my troubles gave me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I was immediately attracted by the first sentence: "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." I began studying the book, and because I didn't understand it very well, I turned to my friend, who introduced me to a Christian Science practitioner.
Meeting the practitioner was an occasion of great importance to my life. I learned to know God as our Father-Mother, all-loving, and to turn to Him with simplicity and trust. I also learned to have a higher regard for myself, in light of the spiritual fact that man is the spiritual idea of God.
