For children

Three steps and a bounce

One hot summer day Ginger was playing hide-and-seek with her sister Katie out on the back porch. Bees were buzzing around some drips of sweet punch that had spilled on the porch floor. As Ginger ran barefoot to catch Katie, she stepped on one of the bees. Ginger began crying. Mommy heard and came out to the back porch. She gathered Ginger into her arms and sat down with her in the rocking chair.

Mommy said, "Let's pray." Ginger already knew that praying meant listening for God's thoughts. Ginger loved to feel close to God. Sometimes she and Mommy sang hymns to pray, and sometimes they thought of special Bible verses she had learned in her Christian Science Sunday School.

Mommy often reminded Ginger of what God says in the Bible: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee." Isa. 41:10. "That's the first step in healing," Ginger said, "Don't be afraid."
