Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy states (p. 342), "Christian Science awakens the sinner, reclaims the infidel, and raises from the couch of pain the helpless invalid." Whenever I hear or read those words I feel like shouting for joy, "This is true! I have seen it!"

When I was a small child, my mother was bedridden with a rheumatic condition diagnosed by doctors as incurable. A neighbor brought her a copy of Science and Health and talked a little about it. She quoted this passage on page 259: "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration." The neighbor also spoke of where the beginning of the Bible tells that God has made man in His image and likeness.

My mother was an independent thinker, not afraid of new ideas. She also grasped the logic of the first chapter of Genesis and loved what she read. A Christian Science practitioner was requested to pray for her. My mother was quickly healed, and she became a vigorous, active woman.
