Don't be led astray

Have you ever been absolutely sure that something was so and then discovered it was an illusion?

I couldn't believe it! My husband had turned the wrong way again, and I had no choice but to follow him. We were going to help a friend move from one apartment to another and were driving separate cars so we could carry more things. When my husband didn't take the freeway, I figured he was just going a different way, and when he turned left instead of right at the end of the street, I thought he must know something I didn't know. I kept right on following closely behind him. He then turned off the main road into a residential neighborhood and proceeded to make several more turns.

By now I was lost but I stuck right behind him. As he turned each corner I could see him clearly, and he didn't seem confused but acted as if he knew exactly where he was going. However, I finally concluded that he must be lost, too. So as we drove by a long stretch of park, I honked my horn several times, hoping he'd pull over and I could ask him if he knew where he was going. He didn't stop, so I honked again and again. He finally pulled into a driveway.

Then the whole picture instantly changed. It wasn't my husband's car! It didn't even resemble it. The person driving the car was a stranger. I drove on by in a daze and felt very foolish. How could I so blindly have followed a strange car? And because we had made so many turns I was completely lost and didn't know how to get back to the main road.
