With a heart full of gratitude for Christian Science, I wish...
With a heart full of gratitude for Christian Science, I wish to relate healings I have had which prove to me that God is all-loving, all-powerful, and the only presence.
The early 1970's found me in a deep depression, grieving and lonely after the passing of my son (an only child), my husband, and my mother all within a matter of months. (My son had just returned from the Vietnam War, where he had served without injury, when he was killed in a street incident in the city where we then lived.)
At the time I was taking pills night and day for depression, without relief; I didn't want to face the daylight. Although I had been raised in another religion while growing up, for many years my mother had worked for a Christian Scientist and had brought home Christian Science literature. I had read that literature and later attended services in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. But I had never become a serious student of Science. Now out of desperation I started reading the Bible. Most comforting was this passage (Ps. 138:8): "The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me." I then started to read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. "The scientific statement of being" on page 468 was very helpful. It concludes with these words: "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual."
