At one time when my vacation began, I eagerly took on a home improvement project that required applying plasterboard to a ceiling. After working hard all day long I began cleaning up. I bent over to pick up some scraps when I was suddenly seized with a severe pain in my lower back and left leg. I fell to the ground, unable to move without experiencing sharp discomfort, and I could not stand up.

In the following moments, I turned to God. We read in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 444), "Step by step will those who trust Him find that 'God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.'" I definitely needed God's help at that time.

It was five o'clock in the afternoon, and I was to perform my responsibilities as First Reader at the Wednesday testimony meeting in our branch Church of Christ, Scientist, at eight o'clock. My wife found me and helped move me to the washroom, where I bathed. It seemed to me that part of the problem was the fear of what I was going to do. How would I solve this predicament? I thought I must have injured my back. I resolved at once to meet those suggestions head-on, just as we are taught to do in Christian Science.
