I would like to express gratitude for a healing that took place at a West Coast sanatorium for Christian Scientists a few years ago. At the time I was employed there, and I lived in the lovely accommodations provided on the grounds. One morning I woke feeling so nauseated, dizzy, and weak that I could not get across the room to telephone for help. In fact, I was striving to stay conscious. As I was always very prompt in arriving for work, when I did not appear my supervisor first tried to get me on the phone, then came to my quarters. The superintendent of nursing was sent for, and the acting administrator came as well. I was quickly helped to the nursing floor of the facility.
From the very beginning of my employment at the sanatorium I had felt enveloped by a tremendously strong sense of love and support. The whole staff operated on a very large appreciation of each individual's worth and contribution to the Cause of Christian Science. The good done by employees was deeply appreciated. Improperly done work was done over or corrected. But the emphasis was always on the good accomplished, and this created an atmosphere of unity and mutual respect for one another. I loved working in that environment, and this supportive sense provided a foundation upon which I could build a better understanding of God.
When I first became ill, I was unable to read or focus. Consequently, I was especially grateful for cassette tapes of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, of the Bible Lesson, and of hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal. These tapes were available to me round the clock. The steadfast, prayerful help of a local Christian Science practitioner and his regular visits were invaluable to me. And the nurses at the facility were joyous and loving as they took care of my physical needs.
