Notes on the "new look" Sentinel

Hundreds of letters have flowed in to the Journal, Sentinel, Herald Editors in response to the "new look" Sentinel. A big majority of our readers say they are delighted with the new format, "with the fresh, clean, simple design, ... the professional attitude." Many, however, are concerned that the "softer" cover is vulnerable and will not hold up for literature distribution.

But perhaps the most significant message from this unexpectedly large reader response is the expression of vigorous affection, loyalty, and appreciation for the high standards and healing message of the periodicals. As one of the more critical letters put it, "All in this letter is said with deep love for the periodicals—truly I mean that. Lovingly, [signed]." And this tone pervaded letters from every corner of the map, from Iola, Kansas; North Platte, Nebraska; Rockville, Maryland; Cedar Falls, Iowa; New York, New York; Los Angeles and Mill Valley, California; Hamburg, Germany; Woking, England; Mornington, New Zealand; Wynberg, South Africa.

The letters extended support as well as criticism for the innovations. Readers asked:
