A prayer for one far-off
This is not releasing, flinging out,
a human thought, a message of my love,
whirling over the earth's curve,
or through its crust and magma,
nor launching out a wish
to the vagaries of wind,
fragilities of hope,
gestures of human ritual.
No world dimension can arrest,
can touch, can influence,
the perfect functioning of Mind.
There is no here nor there in Spirit's stretch.
Far-off is near, confidence rock-sure.
The reach of Christ is to and all around
each need; and prayer does not produce
but sees this all-sufficient light.
