Slightly more than forty years ago I was first introduced to Christian Science through an invitation to a Christian Science lecture. I don't remember now what was said in the lecture, but at the time it made an impression, for right away my wife and I began attending services in a branch church and placed our two children in the Christian Science Sunday School.
I have had many healings over the years, but one that took place just over a year ago stands out in my thought. This healing definitely proved to me there is a God who cares, and that Christian Science is the way of Life.
For well over a year I had suffered with prostate trouble, and even though I studied and prayed for healing in Christian Science and also occasionally asked my wife for her prayerful support, we could not seem to make any progress.
Sometimes the agony seemed almost unbearable, until one morning my wife, who had been so patient and loving throughout this whole time, and I were discussing the prayerful work we had done. She finally told me this could not go on, that I had to do something, and that if I wanted to engage a practitioner outside the family, or if I wanted to have medical surgery, the decision was entirely up to me. I believe firmly in the Bible verses (Mark 11:23, 24): "Whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them."
I did not doubt those truths one bit. I did believe, and my response to my wife was emphatic: "I will not have medical surgery. I am sure that we can work this problem out together in Christian Science." That affirmation was the turning point. Before nightfall the healing was complete, requiring no time for convalescence, and it was truly a case of mental surgery, for which I am most thankful.
I am truly grateful for Christian Science, and for having had the great blessing of class instruction.
