Putting the Grain to Use

As a young woman I was often told by my parents that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. This was generally an injunction not to meddle with mechanical things one didn't fully understand. As a Christian Scientist I've since become aware of the rich blessings inherent in a little spiritual understanding in contradistinction to the hazards of a little human knowledge.

In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy states, "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth, but more of Christian Science must be gained in order to continue in well doing." Science and Health, p. 449;

Early in my study of Science I was greatly distressed with an earache one evening while attending the theater. I managed to stay out the performance, but by bedtime the pain was intense and sleep impossible. My husband read to me from Mrs. Eddy's works and from the Bible, and among the latter readings were the wonderful verses from I John, Chapter 3. The words "Beloved, now are we the sons of God" I John 3:2; rang out like a bell. What a revelation that was! No waiting until morning for healing, not even an hour or a minute. Right then and there was perfection and harmony, which is all a child of God can ever express.
