Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, the textbook of Christian Science by Mary Baker Eddy, came into my life like a burst of light! I was a schoolgirl then, spending the summer on a farm with friends where I had been sent hoping my stay there would be a buildup of my health and strength. We were far from civilization, and at that time I was waiting for the arrival of some medicine—a prescription which was to be filled and sent me from a distant city.

But before the medicine reached me, Science and Health came. It was sent by a relative with the message, "I'm sure the truths in this book will heal." It was indeed a burst of light.

I began at once to read. The concept of God as boundless Life enveloping His children in love commenced to outshine the blackness in my thought of believing in a far-off God who hurls disease and pain at His children to test their ability to bear them. There was no one at hand to whom I could turn for answers to my questions. I had to find them in the book, and since then I've been glad of this. Each page brought a revelation of God's love.
