Beginning at the Beginning

In solving a problem through the application of Christian Science, the beginning is always God. Not a mortal seeking God or speaking or thinking about God, but God Himself. God is the beginning of all that is real. To be scientific in anything, we must recognize Him as the starting point, the basis, the Principle, Life, Soul, and substance.

The Bible tells us, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." Gen. 1:1; But the infinite Principle is not the beginning of finite existence. God is timeless; therefore the beginning is the point where the structure or logic of creation begins. Mary Baker Eddy interprets the biblical "beginning" in her chapter on Genesis in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: "The infinite has no beginning. This word beginning is employed to signify the only,—that is, the eternal verity and unity of God and man, including the universe." Science and Health, p. 502;

Christ Jesus solved many problems, healed many people of their diseases, and raised the dead. That he always began with God rather than as a human being turning to God seems clear from his declarations: "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work," "The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do," and "I can of mine own self do nothing." John 5:17, 19, 30; Does this not tell us that we can expect results from prayer when that prayer is scientific? And prayer is scientific when it begins with God.
