Resurrection—Rising Above Falsity

Disease and mortality—as well as sin—can be faced and overcome today on the same foundation as Christ Jesus overcame them. Mrs. Eddy states his purpose and method succinctly: "Jesus came to rescue men from these very illusions to which he seemed to conform: from the illusion which calls sin real, and man a sinner, needing a Saviour; the illusion which calls sickness real, and man an invalid, needing a physician; the illusion that death is as real as Life. From such thoughts—mortal inventions, one and all— Christ Jesus came to save men, through ever-present and eternal good." Unity of Good, pp. 59-60;

Christ Jesus came to teach and prove the Science of good, the Science of God's infinitude and man's immortal flawlessness as God's idea. He overcame the claims of the senses—suffering, evil, and mortality—because he understood their illusiveness. Since the Christ-impelled capacity to do this is timeless, we are as able in these times to begin emptying our thought of belief in evil as a reality.

Doing so gives us a sense of Easter which is not merely seasonal, not just cultural or social. By exchanging the materially false for the spiritually true we begin to see the metaphysical meaning of Easter which has applicability throughout the year and throughout all time. "Rising above the false, to the true evidence of Life," Mrs. Eddy explains, "is the resurrection that takes hold of eternal Truth." ibid., pp. 60-61;
