Keeping Faithful

Have you ever been trusted with something really important? Perhaps you had to look after your baby sister or brother while your parents were out. Your parents had faith in you, and you didn't let them down.

The Bible says that Joseph, too, was a person who could be trusted, even when temptation was strong. When he was young, Joseph was envied by his brothers. They put him down an old well, where some merchants found him and sold him to other merchants who were going to Egypt. There he was sold to an officer in the army, Potiphar. Joseph served his master well, and so he became the head servant. It says in Genesis, "And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand." Gen. 39:4;

Joseph's master trusted him. He gave him a lot of power and made him an important man. Once Potiphar was away from home and Joseph was left in charge. Potiphar's wife wanted Joseph to make love to her even though she was married. She wanted him to act as though he were her husband. She was not faithful to Potiphar. Joseph knew that what she was asking was wrong.
