Moving to a Better Place
At the heart of Christian Science is the truth that divine Love, or Spirit, is infinite, thereby constituting the only real place. A spiritual view of place is valuable in working out in Christian Science the varied difficulties that may face us from time to time.
Science shows that man is the idea of Spirit, always living in Spirit. The belief in mortal beings is associated with the belief that there is somewhere for them to be—a material universe. Divine Spirit is the only realm in which man lives. Man is not a mortal living in matter or a mortal living in Spirit. Understanding this is practical. Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health: "When the substance of Spirit appears in Christian Science, the nothingness of matter is recognized. Where the spirit of God is, and there is no place where God is not, evil becomes nothing—the opposite of the something of Spirit." Science and Health, p. 480;
As we come to understand the infiniteness and presence of divine Spirit we move to a better place, in a manner of speaking. We take up a better mental position. We come to see that our real identity as the ideal child of God was never placed in matter, was never put in a physical frame and located in a physical universe.
