Freedom from Disease

The statement that man cannot experience disease, pain, or inharmony of any kind because he has no origin or existence apart from God may seem a bit strong. But this spiritual truth can be applied effectively in Christian Science—its truth can be proved— when one is confronted with any inharmonious condition.

Authority for the claim of man's freedom from discord and disease because of his inseparability from God is found in the first chapter of Genesis, in the record of man's spiritual origin. Throughout biblical history, those spiritually-minded individuals who grasped the truth of man's perfection were able to demonstrate it. Christ Jesus, conscious of man's spiritual origin and eternal unity with God, could say with conviction, "I and my Father are one,"^{John 10:30;} and, "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work."^5:17; On this basis he healed the sick and discordant.

This same immortal healing truth came to the spiritual perception of Mrs. Eddy in her discovery of Christian Science. It enables the students of this Science to heal also. Christian Science shows that any illusion of disease or discord arises from the false belief in a material intelligence claiming knowledge of good and evil and presuming creation, including man, to be material.
