TRUE BROTHERS
It was a hot day, and Steve and Sam were looking forward to an evening at the swimming pool. They had been traveling with their parents most of the day, crossing three states to get home, and an evening swim sounded great. Steve, who was five years old, had recently learned to swim underwater. Four-year-old Sam was still learning to swim. The pool, which was close to their house, was their favorite place. In fact, sometimes they went swimming three times in one day.
But this evening it didn't look as though the boys would get to go swimming after all. By dinnertime Sam couldn't eat and seemed too ill to go anywhere. So the swimming plans had to be canceled. They were both disappointed, but Steve said he would pray for Sam, so they could go in the morning.
It was natural for the boys to help each other by praying. They were the only children who were Christian Scientists in the whole county, and they knew it was good to turn to God quickly when illness bothered them. Steve went right to his room and quietly prayed as he had learned in Sunday School. By letting God's thoughts be his thoughts, he knew that good alone was true and that sickness was a lie about God's children. He knew what Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health, "God is good." Science and Health, p. 113; So only good could be real. After Steve prayed, he didn't wait around to see what would happen; he went out to play, knowing that God was taking care of his brother.
