The Value of Putting God First
If we are seeking freedom from pressure, insecurity, and fear, there is but one way to find it—that is, put God first in our lives. It is a way all can find and follow through Christian Science.
From the beginning to the end of his mission of teaching the true way of Life, Christ Jesus put God first. He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." John 14:6; Selfish, mortal interests held no attraction for him. His aim was to glorify God. His statement "I and my Father are one" 10:30; clearly reveals the character of his thought.
The will of God for man, His spiritual expression, is all-harmonious life. This life is entirely free of discordant material conditions arising from the belief that we have a mind and a life of our own. Scientific Christianity brings about the acknowledgment and demonstration of God as All-in-all, and of man as His image and likeness, His reflection. This is accomplished by always putting God first. But one might ask if it is practicable to put God first in a world so often occupied by the desire to accumulate worldly riches rather than to understand and express God. Is material, personal self-interest more important than knowledge of God and His beneficent laws?
