Replacing Fables with Facts

One mission of Christian Science is to oppose and destroy all forms of superstition. It is concerned with replacing fables with facts. Deeply ingrained false beliefs seem to yield slowly, but this Science is steadily and quietly at work, leavening human thought through spiritual understanding.

The need for this spiritual light becomes clearly evident when we call to mind the extreme forms of superstition that still persist. Because they fear bad luck, many people avoid walking under ladders. And it is not uncommon for office or apartment buildings to skip the designation "thirteenth floor." In other words, the belief is current in many quarters that there is some mysterious force at large that for totally irrational reasons can wreak harm.

On the contrary, the Bible reveals a God-controlled universe where goodness, intelligence, love, order, and justice are ever present. The familiar text in the book of Genesis reads, "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Gen. 1:31;
