When I am troubled, I often sit down and read testimonies in The Christian Science Journal or the Christian Science Sentinel. This always refreshes me. It is my hope that this testimony will encourage someone else.

One evening, some years ago, I was canning with a pressure canner. While I was examining the processed jars for leakage, the lid blew off one of them and some of the contents went onto my neck, chest, and arms. The remainder spattered everything in the small kitchen. The floor was so covered that there was no place for me to step. I must have been in what would be termed a state of shock, for I felt no physical pain, only dismay over the condition of the room.

I went to work cleaning up the kitchen and then myself. By the time this was finished, the numbness was beginning to wear off, and I had to face the situation. I had not been studying Science very long, and knew that I had to have help. I phoned a Christian Science practitioner; then retired immediately. I slept soundly through the night without any pain at all. And there was not one minute of pain during the two weeks that the practitioner had advised me to stay indoors until all visible signs of the occurrence had disappeared. Although the burns seemed to be severe, they healed without leaving ugly scars. There have been many cases of physical healing and instances of direction and protection since then, but after this one experience I have never needed further proof of the reliability and power of Christian Science to heal.
