For many years I have benefited from the study of Christian Science, sometimes in difficult circumstances, such as in times of war. The benefit has not always been physical. During a standstill in battle, while I was driving a tank in World War II, the noise of war seemed so ominous that a great fear gripped me. Immediately I reached for a tattered friend, a Sentinel, and the first words read were from Psalm 91 (verse 5): "Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day." All fear left me on that occasion. I came through the war unharmed.

I have had many physical healings, sometimes with the help of a devoted Christian Science practitioner. One healing was that of a heart condition.

I am grateful for a recent experience. One morning I fell from a high set of steps onto a concrete floor, and an elbow took a load of my weight. I have done medical nursing and held first-aid certificates, so I recognized that the immobilized arm and pain showed a fractured humerus, although this was not professionally diagnosed. This presentation of a break was immediately counteracted in my own thought. I walked to and fro, filling thought with statements from Mrs. Eddy's book, Science and Health. After a minute or two of prayer I decided that to continue the work I had been doing was the best form of praise to God and proof of freedom. This occurred about ten o'clock.
