"Come ye yourselves apart ... and rest"

One day when Christ Jesus and his disciples were very busy and "there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat," Jesus said to them, "Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while." Mark 6:31 And we are told they went away privately by ship.

What a modern picture this presents! Evidently the disciples were rushing about to meet the many demands on them and had no time for themselves, not "so much as to eat." Then their beloved Master took them away to a quiet place where they could be alone with God.

We all need to leave our work for a while for rest and study. Earnest students of Christian Science know that on returning they will find the Christ has made their burden lighter. Spiritual enlightenment will have dissolved human will to some extent. They will have listened to and obeyed the loving call: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest... And ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matt. 11:28-30
