You Can't Escape from Yourself

Many people find that they are in a constant state of dissatisfaction. They find that they are always running from something, keeping themselves occupied with trivialities, trying to escape boredom. This may take the form of compulsive TV watching or overemphasized social activity. It may take the form of immorality, trip-taking with drugs, or any one of a number of ways that human thought has devised to divert attention or amuse. But why this necessity to escape?

Christian Science explains that the material, mortal sense of things is unreal and that it can never be complete or satisfied. Jesus preached that "the kingdom of heaven is at hand"; Matt. 4:17; and he said that it was not to be sought outside: "Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." Luke 17:21;
