How God Helps Us

"God, help me!" Sometimes the human appeal for divine aid, for comfort, protection, sure guidance, may appear futile. Possibly—in fact, almost certainly—this is because the appeal has been less than intelligently directed. The petitioner may have but meager, if any, understanding of God's methods, His means of help. He may doubt His willingness or even His ability to understand and provide for his need, whether mental, moral, or physical. But God actually is a present help, ever present. The Psalmist recognized this when he triumphantly proclaimed, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Ps. 46:1;

Because lack of spiritual understanding actually disturbs the one who prays, he may not really expect that the help he so urgently needs is presently available right where he is, that it may be manifested in a way he can humanly see and understand. He may not realize God's deep, untiring interest in His children, His unfailing love for them, His continuous care for their happiness and well-being.

All of us need to realize the immediacy of divine support. It is unwise ever to attempt blindly to go it alone or with doubtful human assistance. How much all of us need to recognize and consequently appreciate divine help—its ever-presence and constant, loving reliability!
