"Blessed are the peacemakers"

[For young adults]

How practical are Jesus' teachings today? One of his beatitudes is, "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." Matt. 5:9;

But how can we be peacemakers in a world where war and the threat of war are often the instruments of national policy, where men's freedom is threatened by the selfish encroachment of others, and where violence is considered a necessary and powerful weapon for maintaining order? The turbulent state of the world shows what great need there is for peacemakers.

The first step in making peace in any conflict is to recognize that, in reality, all are the beloved children of the one Father-Mother God. Aggression, selfishness, injustice, and hate, which cause the conflict, are only part of mortal belief and do not belong to His children. As the Bible tells us, "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him." Gen 1:27 So the true everyone expresses unity, justice, and love, even though these qualities may sometimes seem hidden from view. The more we look for God's nature in our fellows, the more harmony and peace we find in our experience.
