The Windowpane Is Not the Sun
An individual who was surrounded by loved ones was sadly thinking of the loneliness and sorrow of those who are left without someone they have cherished. And she also felt deep compassion for those who miss having someone cherish them. Just then she looked through a clear window at the shining sun.
Because God is ever with His children and is speaking to those who will listen, always in a way we can understand, these thoughts came to the yearning woman: "Why, I wouldn't think of standing before this particular window the rest of my life because I like the sun! Nor would I believe the sun is shining only through this one window. I know this pane isn't the sun; the glass is a transparency for the sun. If I left this house, I wouldn't think of carrying the glass along with me so I could always have the sun with me!"
She then gratefully realized that a human being is like a windowpane, a transparency for the love and care that God has for all His children. All that ever protects, comforts, and companions with each of us is an expression of the loving qualities of our God, who is Love. Just as the sun shines on, whether a windowpane is present or not, so the radiancy of Love surrounds us with or without the presence of a human being. Then came a statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, "Man is not God, but like a ray of light which comes from the sun, man, the outcome of God, reflects God." Science and Health, p. 250;
