I am grateful for the Wednesday evening testimony meetings...

I am grateful for the Wednesday evening testimony meetings held in Churches of Christ, Scientist. To me the meetings are like an oasis in the middle of the week.

One Wednesday in 1964, in Calcutta, India, while walking back to my hotel after luncheon, I began to feel severe stomach discomfort. To the best of my ability I held to the allness of God, good, and continued slowly on to my hotel room, where I lay down and read a few lines from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I dozed off and awakened some time later still in pain.

The Christian Science Journal listed no practitioner there, but I knew that there would be a testimony meeting at six thirty. I arose, dressed, and went out, confident that if I could attend the meeting, I would receive the spiritual strength needed to defeat the mesmeric suggestion of illness.

During the testimony period I stood and expressed my gratitude for Mrs. Eddy's provision of the Wednesday evening meetings and for the opportunity to be present there that evening. The act of getting up and even standing required conscious effort; but as I made my remarks, the pain drained away, literally replaced by a flood of real warmth and consideration from those present; and I was able to stand erect and be free from discomfort.

After the meeting, with a sincerely humble feeling of gratitude for the healing, I rode in an automobile for the half-hour trip to the airport. Our son was to arrive at nine o'clock from San Francisco to be with us for his summer vacation, and it was important that I be at the airport.

I am grateful for God's perpetual grace, for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for class instruction.
