Be Faithful over Small Things

The Psalmist declared, "O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day." Ps. 119:97; It is indeed natural to love and obey the God -given rules of Christian conduct found in the Scriptures and in the inspired writings of Mrs. Eddy. And how important it is to spiritual progress to work out the lesser spiritual requirements in order to be in a stronger position to learn the larger lessons that are in store!

Students of Christian Science should be careful never to lay down their mental weapons on the pretext that a desirable healing is not important enough to bother with. Trying to push ahead through human will in the demonstration of Science could cause one to neglect solving simpler problems right at hand. The tempter would find myriad ways to make the student sweep bothersome bits of error under the rug instead of keeping his mental house swept clean. Scientific prayer and an honest appraisal of oneself will act to clarify thought and uncover unnoticed errors that may be hanging on and causing trouble.

Sometimes even a well-meaning individual derives enjoyment from chuckling over the actions or appearance of others. This might seem to be harmless, but in the process these others are likely to be labeled as erring mortals instead of being correctly identified as spiritual ideas of the one divine Mind, God's children. The tendency to downgrade others in the name of humor is one of those veiled sins that should be rooted out of consciousness instead of being allowed living room.
