Knowing Spiritual Man

Christian Science brings hope to the world by showing that man is to be distinguished from material corporeality and known in his true identity as spiritual and incorporeal. Christians accept the Bible as a statement of the truth, and Christian Science points out that the Bible reveals man as God's image, His spiritual reflection. This is the truth of man.

It doesn't take long to convince oneself that there is more to a human being than flesh and physical faculties. The human self has spiritual sense, and although the material faculties and spiritual sense seem to dwell together in one individual, these two modes of consciousness do not mingle. One knows many things that the five senses cannot cognize, such as justice and wisdom, love and purity, intelligence, and even life itself. These Christly elements are real to us, more real than matter, actually, for they represent the elements of thought that uplift human life. But only spiritual sense can cognize them. They do not even exist to the physical senses.

Christ Jesus must have been making this distinction when he said to Nicodemus, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." He added, "Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." John 3:6, 7;
