Understanding Christian Science
Most beginners in the study of Christian Science find that it is not difficult to understand. They learn that while all of it is not grasped at once, they are able to discern its simpler meanings and basic points and start demonstrating them in their daily life. As they continue their study, more and more of the truth unfolds.
But this is not always the case. Sometimes a person will begin his study earnestly and conscientiously, but before long he will conclude that he simply cannot understand it. He is tempted to give up, presuming he lacks the necessary ability to comprehend what he reads. What stands in the way of assimilating this Science which promises so much good to the sincere seeker?
The trouble is usually failure to reject the material sense of existence and its false testimony and to replace it with spiritual sense, or the perception of spiritual facts and values. We are educated from childhood to believe that whatever the five physical senses tell us is real, even though we have had many examples proving that these senses cannot be relied upon. Christian Science requires that we begin to question material sense testimony and its claim to invincibility and see what is spiritually true.
