Church Dedications
PASO ROBLES, CALIFORNIA (First Church) The Daily Press September 20, 1968
First Church of Christ, Scientist, Paso Robles, is announcing the dedication of its church edifice at 17th and Chestnut Streets, on Sunday, September 22. There will be two services; the regular 11 a.m. service and one at 3 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.
A Christian Science church is dedicated only when free from debt. This requirement was met recently with the aid of a grant from The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
Christian Science services were first held in Paso Robles in a private home, in July of 1920. By September of 1921 the group had grown so that a regular church edifice was erected on the corner of 12th and Vine Streets. This met the need for a Sunday School and a Christian Science Reading Room, as well as an auditorium.
On May 16, 1945, the society became an authorized branch of The Mother Church. By December 29, 1946, this group was able to dedicate the original edifice. Further growth led to the purchase of the present lot in April, 1950.
The construction of the building began in August of 1958.... The first service was held in the new church on Sunday, March 15, 1959. ... The complete church complex, of contemporary design, will include a Sunday School wing.
TEXARKANA, ARKANSAS (First Church) Texarkana Gazette October 12, 1968
Dedication services for First Church of Christ, Scientist, Texarkana, Arkansas, will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. and at 5.30 p.m.
Christian Science churches are dedicated only when they are free of debt. Members of the church have expressed their appreciation to all who helped make the dedication of the church possible at this time.
The first regular Christian Science services in Texarkana were held December 13, 1903, in the Rialto Building, which is now known as the Medical Arts Building, in the 300 block of State Line Ave. During the period from 1903 to 1918 several moves were made in the downtown area. Early in 1918 the church edifice was established at 612 Walnut, and in 1957 the present location at 2724 County was acquired and a new building erected. The first service was conducted at the new church December 6, 1959.
