Inspiration Is Essential
To grow morally and spiritually, one must feed upon the bread of Truth and feel the strength and substance of infinite Spirit. In daily study and prayer one can find inspiration, and by this he can know that he is touching the divine and listening to the impartations of God. Such experience is not extraordinary to the faithful student. It is his regular fare, for it is necessary to his daily sustenance.
Through prayer as taught in Christian Science, one gains a glimpse of spiritual reality, the reality of God's perfect universe and perfect man. As he maintains this realization of Truth, he brings the forces of God to bear upon human thought and experience; and this heals the sick and the sinning. It is the power of Truth that inspires human consciousness and liberates the human body. The spiritual and divine are found to be the real and actual, while the material and mortal are found to be illusory and temporal. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "The illuminations of Science give us a sense of the nothingness of error, and they show the spiritual inspiration of Love and Truth to be the only fit preparation for admission to the presence and power of the Most High." Science and Health, p. 596;
All too often the accumulation of material thinking clutters consciousness, and one feels the weight of worldly, selfish, and hateful thought. It is no wonder that persistent prayer is required to cleanse consciousness, lift the burden, and let in the light of inspiration. The presence of divine Love becomes apparent through the coincidence of the divine with the human, and the light of Love brings a glow to human existence that reveals the presence of infinite Spirit.
