Before I learned of Christian Science, I had the feeling regarding human life, with all its confusing appearances, of someone who dreams that he is in a maze searching in vain for the way out. As I began to read the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, this feeling disappeared. It was as if I had awakened from a nightmare and had found myself at home again.

This Science has brought many blessings to our family. My mother received the first healing. She suffered from insomnia for eight years. She was compelled to take a sleeping pill every night to sleep. A stomach disorder developed that made it impossible for her to eat many foods without suffering from severe pains. She became very weak. In addition she was hard of hearing.

While she was in this condition, she came to visit us. I had just begun to study Christian Science. She, too, began to read the textbook to see what it was. She took her usual pill the first night, but then no more; they were no longer necessary, for she slept like a child. The stomach disorder was healed; she could eat all foods without suffering pain. Her hearing became normal too. When she noticed that she was healed, she said to me, "You must not think that I have understood what I read. It is all by the grace of God." She lived in complete health for many years after this healing, always regretting that she had not found this great truth sooner.
