"Honesty is spiritual power"
Honesty, as a quality of thought and conduct, is an irreducible essential in the practice of Christian Science. With incisive directness Mrs. Eddy says, "In the Science of Mind-healing, it is imperative to be honest, for victory rests on the side of immutable right." Science and Health, p. 446;
God is infinite, intelligent good, perfect divine Mind, and strict integrity of thought and act tends to unite us with God. We blend with Him in quality and thus reflect the healing power of divine Love. Honesty is a phase of purity that enables us to perceive the divine presence encircling man and the universe. Christ Jesus said, "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." Matt. 5:8;
The dishonesty that seems so rampant today in individual and public life is due, for the most part, to the growing cynicism regarding the Judeo-Christian ethic. Some people now regard the Ten Commandments as a mere human fabrication and instead accept personally conceived standards based on individual opinions, whims, and desires, all of which are governed by the exigencies of the moment. They look upon the cosmos as a soulless machine without Principle or purpose, and therefore feel they can do pretty much as they please.
